Dr. Joy

Hello!  I am Dr. Joy Bronkhorst (often referred to as Dr. Joy) and I am excited to be serving the students at W.R. Odell Primary School as the School Psychologist.  I am originally from western New York and I relocated to Charlotte about 16 years ago after tiring of too many snowy cold winters.  After spending a few years here, I moved to the Pacific Northwest for my husband's job.  Although we loved the beauty of Washington and Oregon, the rainy season was too long and dreary, so we eventually decided to move back to the sunny Carolinas!  My husband and I have a 9-year-old daughter and 6-year-old son.  After spending a few years home with them, I was excited to join Cabarrus County Schools last year.  

I graduated from Alfred University in NY with my Doctorate of Psychology in 2001.  I have had the privilege of working in districts in Pennsylvania (The Pathway School), New York (Ithaca City Schools), North Carolina (CMS), Washington (Battleground Schools), and now Cabarrus County Schools!  I enjoy working in a profession where I can support students, families, and educators in fostering academic, social, emotional, and behavioral growth.  I look forward to seeing the Odell Dragons again this year!
